Lina Allemano
LINA ALLEMANO (trumpeter, flugelhornist, cornetist, composer) was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. A professional musician by the age of 15, she relocated to Toronto in 1993 and has since performed with a lengthy roster of jazz greats including Howard Johnson, Don Byron, Dave Holland, Mike Murley, and Joe Lovano.
She was invited to play with Ingrid Jensen in Dave Douglas' Festival of New Trumpet Music in New York City, and was among 25 young trumpet-players featured recently in a Downbeat Magazine article entitled “25 Trumpeters for the Future: A New Generation of Trumpeters Pave the Way for Jazz’s Next Innovations”.
As well as fronting her own band, the Lina Allemano Four, and the improvisational group N, she is also a member of the Paul Read Orchestra (PRO), Tim Posgate's Hornband, the Cluttertones, the Jane Fair / Rosemary Galloway Quintet, and other bands in both Toronto and New York. She appears on more than 25 recordings including her own CDs, Lina Allemano Four Pinkeye and Lina Allemano Four Concentric.
She studied at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada, and currently studies advanced technique with respected New York trumpet master Laurie Frink.
She has received support from Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, the Toronto Arts Council, and Yamaha Canada Music, which she continues to represent as a Yamaha Artist.
