Q: “Vibraphone, or marimba is an incredibly visual instrument. What attracted you to it in the first place, do you remember?”
A: Bobby Hutcherson: “Oh, yeah, sure. I was walking down the street. I grew up in Pasadena, California and I was walking down the street. I was coming to pass, I was about thirteen years old and I heard this music coming out of this record store and it was Bemsha Swing with Milt Jackson, Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, Percy Heath and Kenny Clarke.”
Interviewer: “Classic Blue Note Record.”
Bobby Hutcherson: “Yeah. And I was walking down the street and it was just going just the way I was walking, you know, and I heard Milt Jackson playing and I said, "Oh, man."
