Q: “You think of something like the Dave Brubeck Quartet, together for thirteen or fourteen years and working fifty weeks a year and on the road most of that time and the individual development can’t happen…”

A: “Well, you see, that's another kind of situation, too, because, well that wasn't have a cooperative group in the sense that everyone happen to equal billing. You see, like us, we're all featured. Either one of us can function as a leader at any time where anybody can stand out. I mean, here I am doing this today. It could have been anyone of us. You know, if you look in the paper, you see a picture of me or you see a picture of Lester or Roscoe. I mean, I think we try to present everybody on equal level, you know.”
