David Prentice

Biography

DAVID PRENTICE (violinist) was born in 1947 and in 1980, after many years playing professionally, was shopping for a better violin but was discouraged by the price. It was then he decided to try his hand at instrument making. He sought the necessary information on violin making in books but found them confusing; however, he met luthier Joseph Curtin, who proved to be a valued mentor. Prentice made his first violin in a course given by luthier Philip Davis at the Ontario College of Art, and was so satisfied with his success that he decided to make a career of instrument design and construction.
